In 1805, the Corps of Discovery led by Lewis and Clark camped near the Columbia River
in the area occupied by present-day Pasco, Washington. Routes for Native Americans, fur
trappers, and gold traders converged here in the rain shadow of the Cascade Range, creating a trade nexus despite the dry, high desert climate. Using alternating bands of dynamic motifs drawn from some of the earliest archival Pendleton blankets, this pattern captures the cultural convergence that results from commerce.
